Založená v roku 1465 kráľom Matejom Korvínom. Stará budova Academie Istropolitana dnes slúži mladým študujúcim divadelníkom na Vysokej škole múzických umení. Patrí medzi sedmičku najvýznamnejších bratislavských pamiatok. Kedysi tu boli len meštiacke a obchodnícke domy, ktoré sa však po smrti bohatého majiteľa uvoľnili pre potreby humanistického školstva. O trinásť rokov neskôr založil aj podobnú školu v Pešti. S menom kráľa Korvína sa spája obdobie uhorskej renesan.
